New Youtube monetization rules 2020 — small creator opinion
If you don’t know yet, Youtube announced that small creators that have not yet reached the monetization thresholds will start to see adds rolled out in some of their videos and the content creators will not receive a cut from those earnings.
There are some ways in which small Youtube channels will be affected, but the bigger channels will feel the repercussions of this decision as well.
For small creators, there are 2 main concerns that I have identified so far.
1. People feel like YT is profiting on their content because the earning are not going to be shared.
2. People fear that this will make the process of gaining subscribers a lot more difficult since viewers will not have enough patience to sit through the adds and they will click off faster than ever.
For bigger creators, the main concern is that less adds will be rolled out in their videos and they will notice a drop on their earning through AdSense.
Now, let’s talk about the problems that small creators have with this change.
1. Addressing the idea that YT is taking advantage of the content that is being monetized without the creator getting a cut, in my opinion that is not actually the case. We are given a platform for our content for free, but the administration of this platform costs money. Youtube is a company that at the end of the day has to bring in profit.
